Camp MARC

  
   Camp MARC is a camp for handicapped adults and it is the most amazing place ever.  All year long I look forward to going back to camp just like the campers and this year was no different.  This year I was in Cabin H with five other counselors (Kelsey, Shelby, Emily, Erica, and Sara) and eleven campers.  Sara and I were village leaders (VL) together and we got along great!
   Camp MARC gives campers the opportunity to participate in all kinds of activities.  This year the theme was Mardi Gras, so in arts and crafts the campers made masks.  They painted them and glued feathers on them.  Also, they made sit-upons to sit on while they watched fireworks.  They also made bead and rubber band necklaces and bracelets.  In music, they participated in a music scavenger hunt, ate watermelon, play water musical chairs, did zumba, made musical instruments, and many other fun things.  The campers got to swim in the pool everyday, eat snow cones and hotdogs and ride on the pontoon boat.  They even got to drive the boat, which was a little scary (Just kidding!  They are some pretty good drivers.)  In nature, the campers got to go fishing, on a canoe trip, make shirts, and have a flour bomb fight.  The campers got to go down a water slide, dunk their counselors (Shelby and Kelsey) in the dunking booth, bowl on the Wii, have a water bomb war and so many other things in sports.
   Campers also got to participate in several games in Camp MARC Olympics.  This year they bought back ALL CAMP, in which all the cabins performed skits.  The campers also got to perform in the cabaret, go to a mardi gras dance, ride horses, watch fireworks, sit on and look at motorcycles, have a picnic and so many more things.  The week was full of activities.  We were constantly going, but everyone loved it.  Many of the campers are not used to so much activity and walking and/or getting older, so we did have two golf carts to help transport people and that helped.  Camp MARC is a place where the campers are can be themselves and feel comfortable, respected and loved.

 
  Camp MARC is such an amazing place.  By the end of the week we are all exhausted, but we are sad to leave.  It is a place where you get to work with and meet some very special people: counselors and campers.  This past year was my eight year and I am already looking forward to next year.  When camp is over we all start to go our separate ways, but we all have a tear in our eye as say our final good bye and give our last hug.  We all hope to see each other again next year.
